Ken Trouton (Stadium)

My journey in the world of dog sports began humbly at Birkland Kennels, where I trained with a small group. As a Handler, my first dog was an untitled Rottweiler, named Rowdy, whose spirited nature and determination became a symbol of my early dedication to the sport. In 1987, I took a significant step by joining a dedicated club, Lower Mainland German Shepherd Dog Club, which marked the beginning of a new chapter in my dog sport career.
I established myself as a Helper at the Regional level until 2017, when the wear and tear on my knees made it necessary to step back. This experience enriched my understanding of the sport and deepened my commitment to its promotion.
The pinnacle of my handling career came in 2015 with my German Shepherd, Hercules von Grunberg. His impressive performance earned us a distinguished Universal Sieger Vice Champion title at Campogalliano, Italy. This achievement remains a proud testament to the bond between handler and dog, and to the potential that can be realized with perseverance and teamwork.
On June 21, 2019 I began my judging career with the GSSCC. My judging approach is grounded in a deep appreciation for the sport, shaped by my experiences as a Handler, Competitor, Helper, and GSSCC West Region Chairperson. It is my hope that my contributions continue to foster an environment of respect and admiration for this vibrant and challenging dog sport.

I started this sport in 1990, with a pet Doberman. I bought my first German Shepherd in 1994, and trained him to Schutzhund 3. Since then I’ve trained 6 more Shepherds, competing at Club, Regional, National, and WUSV levels. I am currently competing with a young dog, entering our Regionals as I write this. I entered the Canadian judging program in 2006, and have judged here in Canada, the United States, and twice in Barbados. I just recently stepped down as Head Judge for the German Shepherd Schutzhund Club of Canada, to take on the role of President of that organization. I wish all the competitors and Organizers the best of luck for this upcoming event, and am looking forward to seeing you all.
